Q8.

What if I have bought or sold the property for which I’m being billed?

Answer:

All properties are taxed to the person that owned the property as of January 1. If that property is sold after January 1 the tax bill will still hold the name of the January 1 owner but should be forwarded “in care of” to the buyer. The same will apply if you purchase property. If you have sold the property, and are not responsible for the tax, and receive the bill it is the sellers responsibility to forward that bill to the buyer. If you are the purchaser and have not received your bill contact the Sheriff’s Office and we will mail one to you.
·        The Sheriff’s Office is not responsible if the buyer/seller did not receive a bill due to oversights during your closing process.
